2014年上半年，由于天然氣儲(chǔ)量高，加上溫和的天氣條件導(dǎo)致供暖需求減弱，歐洲主要中心地區(qū)的天然氣價(jià)格大幅下跌。這導(dǎo)致了批發(fā)電價(jià)的降低，提高了英國(guó)燃?xì)獍l(fā)電的盈利能力，減少了歐洲大陸市場(chǎng)的損失。由于煤炭?jī)r(jià)格在這一時(shí)期只是略有下降，燃?xì)獍l(fā)電相對(duì)于煤炭的競(jìng)爭(zhēng)力有所提高，但天然氣在歐洲電力結(jié)構(gòu)中的份額并沒(méi)有顯著增加。

In the first half of 2014, due to high gas reserves and subdued heating demand relating to mild weather conditions, natural gas prices fell significantly on the major European hubs. This resulted in d ecrease of wholesale power prices and improving profitability of gas-fired power generation in the United Kingdom and decreasing losses in the continental markets. As coal prices only slightly decreased in this period the relative competitiveness of gas fired generation against coal improved, though the share of natural gas did not increase significantly i n the European power mix.
