Hainan Province consists of Hainan Island and other islands in the South China Sea. With the rapid economic development and population growth in Hainan Province, the energy demand of Hainan Province is also growing rapidly. It is estimated that by 2035, Hainan's power demand may triple. At present, Hainan Province mainly relies on non renewable energy such as coal and nuclear power. In May 2019, the Chinese government issued the national ecological civilization pilot zone (Hainan) implementation plan 1, which plans to build a clean energy development demonstration zone in Hainan Province by 2030. The development of clean energy in Hainan Province is closely related to China's overall strategy of building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system. It is not only part of the construction of ecological civilization, but also closely related to China's ongoing power market reform. China's National Renewable Energy Center (cnrec) issues a "China Renewable Energy Outlook" (Creo) report every year. Based on a comprehensive energy system modeling, the report elaborates the main development scenarios of China's energy system, and makes a special analysis on China's clean energy transformation.
