煤炭部全面負(fù)責(zé)制定煤炭、褐煤儲(chǔ)量勘探開發(fā)政策、戰(zhàn)略，對(duì)重大高價(jià)值項(xiàng)目進(jìn)行審批，并決定有關(guān)問題。這些關(guān)鍵職能是通過其公共部門事業(yè)來行使的，即印度煤業(yè)有限公司（CIL）和印度NLC有限公司（NLCIL）以及印度SingareniCollieries有限公司（SCCL），后者是特蘭加納政府和印度政府以51∶49的比例共同承擔(dān)的部門。
The Ministry of Coal has the overall responsibility of determininpolicies and strategies in respect of exploration and developmentof coal and lignite reserves, sanctioning of important projects ofhigh value and for deciding all related issues. These key functionsare exercised through its public sector undertakings, namely CoalIndia Limited (CIL) and NLC India Limited(NLCIL)and SingareniCollieries Company Limited (SCCL) a joint sector undertaking ofGovernment of Telangana and Govemment of India with eauitcapital in the ratio of 51: 49
