In 2016 1 , 3 613 Billion cubic metres (Bcm) of natural gas were produced globally, a 0.8% increase compared to 2015. Natural gas production has risen every year since the economic crisis of 2009; however the increase in 2016 (+29.1 Bcm) is the smallest in this period.
