Electric vehicles (EVs) have the potential to change the way the world moves. Electric vehicles could reduce dependence on oil, improve the safety of energy supplies, and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants by diversifying their fuel mix. Just as important, electric cars inspire innovation and create advanced industries that fuel job growth and economic prosperity. However, the widespread adoption of electric vehicles requires transportation systems to be able to integrate and cultivate this new technology. To accelerate the transformation of this new technology, cities and metropolises around the world are actively creating ecosystems that will benefit the growth of electric vehicles, laying the foundation for their widespread use in the future. Because urban areas are important to the introduction and scale expansion of electric vehicles, this electric vehicle city case book provides rich case analysis information on the development planning of electric vehicles in many large cities and regions of the world. These case studies illustrate how these pioneer cities are preparing for mass marketization of electric vehicles, including qualitative and quantitative information about the goals, progress, policies, incentives, and lessons learned so far. The electric vehicle city case book was created to share the experience, challenges and opportunities of electric vehicle demonstration and promotion, and to highlight the best ways to create a thriving ecosystem of electric vehicles. These studies aim to increase understanding of the most effective policy measures to support the development of electric vehicles in urban areas.
