Nothing is more important to the coal industry than ensuring our people return home safely  at the end of the working day. Safety in our operations is a value and is fundamental to the  way we do all things.  Our goal is the elimination of fatalities, injuries and workplace illnesses in our operations.  We believe in continuous improvement in safety performance.  A combination of rigorous safety processes, employee training, new technologies and  better communication has led to significant improvements in safety in coal mining globally.  But the pursuit of safety is a never ending process. Core elements of safety in our operations We believe there are four core components to ensuring we provide the safest possible  workplaces: 1. Implement a risk management culture – identifying hazards, undertaking risk  assessments and implementing controls are crucial steps in reducing the risk of  incidents. 2. Work in partnership with our people – empowering them to share concerns and being  open to suggestions for improved performance. 3. Safety is everyone’s responsibility – people in every aspect of our operations have a  role to play in creating a safe workplace. 4. Safety and health can always be improved – a workplace learning culture can always  apply new ideas for improving safety and learn lessons from mistakes. We are global leaders in coal mine safety As the leaders of the global coal industry we expect the highest standards of ourselves and  our fellow World Coal Association Members when it comes to ensuring the safety of our  workers.  We are committed to working across the industry at a global level to share our knowledge  about safe work practices and to encourage all companies in the coal industry to set the  same high standards for themselves.  All members of the World Coal Association are expected to deploy state-of-the-art safety  systems. We will share knowledge wherever possible and work cooperatively to help make  that happen.  We want to make a difference We commit to publishing, on an annual basis, information about action taken across our  member companies to improve safety performance. We further commit to developing a reporting framework across our membership to provide  statistical information about our safety performance.
